More than 100 nations have enacted comprehensive data protections laws, but the U.S. is not one of them. Policymakers have yet to agree on how to protect personal data, how to give consumers better controls and protections over their personal data, what responsibilities corporations should have to protect data and privacy, and how best to enforce such protections.
This forum will explore how the U.S. should approach data and privacy protection. The event will begin with three Ted-style presentations covering the realities of digital life, followed by a fireside chat with U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.). It will conclude with a dynamic audience debate in response to questions asked by the moderator.

Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) invites you to join us on Friday, June 7th, 2019 for a roundtable discussion with Dr. Johnny Ryan, Chief Policy & Industry Relations Officer for Brave Software, to discuss The Future of Ad Tech – Emerging Business Models and Designing for Privacy.
Prior to joining Brave Software, Dr. Ryan was Head of Ecosystem for PageFair, and Chief Innovation Officer of The Irish Times. In recent years, he has been a prominent privacy advocate in the EU, working with digital rights organizations to file formal complaints with regulators in the UK, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, related to advocates’ concerns about the Ad Tech industry and current real-time bidding (RTB) practices (read the primary regulatory complaint here). More recently, Dr. Ryan testified before the U.S. Senate Judicary Committee in a May 21st hearing, “Understanding the Digital Advertising Ecosystem and the Impact of Data Privacy and Competition Policy.” (Watch the hearing)
The discussion will be moderated by Stacey Gray, Senior Counsel at the Future of Privacy Forum.
We will discuss with the group:

Each month, the Future of Privacy Forum hosts a call with thought leaders to discuss topical issues related to privacy and responsible data use.
We will provide an update and opportunity to discuss recent privacy updates to the Android and iOS platforms and app stores.
We will also discuss recent legislative developments regarding biometric technologies. Lawmakers are increasingly passing or considering measures that would limit use of facial recognition or other biometric tech by government agencies and/or companies. These issues are top of mind for legislators at the federal, state, and municipal levels.
